Alison Johnstone is the Scottish Green Party MSP for Lothian region.
She is a member of the parliament’s Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee, is co-convener of the cross-party group on cycling, and is deputy convener of the cross-party groups on Children & Young People and Sport.
Alison is the Greens’ spokesperson on rural affairs, environment, culture, education and sport. Alison has led the call in parliament for increased Government spending to make cycling safe for all, believing this would cut mortality rates directly, as well as reduce pressure on the Scottish health service as a result of the health benefits of a more active population.
A former assistant to Robin Harper MSP, Alison served as a councillor for Morningside and the Meadows in Edinburgh between 2007 and May 2012.
Registrar in a leading Edinburgh language school, Alison became involved in politics after campaigning to protect playing fields in Edinburgh.
