Cycling Scotland Conference 2014

Cllr Frank McAveetyCouncillor McAveety has been elected as a Councillor in Glasgow between 1988 and 1999 and since 2012.

From 1997 until 1999 Councillor McAveety served as Leader of the Glasgow City Council and during this time he established the first ever Local Authority Standards Committee.

After being elected to the Scottish Parliament in 1999, Councillor McAveety held the following positions: Deputy Minister for Local Government; Deputy Minister for Health and Community Care. He has also served as Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport during which tenure he established the National Theatre of Scotland.

Councillor McAveety also served as an MSP for Glasgow Shettleston from 1999 to 2011.

In 2012, he was elected into Glasgow City Council and convenes the Policy Committee for Sustainability and the Environment. He has been given specific responsibility to progress cycling matters for the City Council.
